In Memoriam: David “Gene” Wilson, January 14, 1951 – July 4, 2025

David “Gene” Wilson

From the Director: Gene was a gentle giant of a man, devoted to his family, his love of little league baseball and devotion to his career as an inspector for the City of Dunedin. He was always there to help if anyone needed anything and a pleasure to speak with on any occasion. He was the first member of my wife’s extended family that I met after an Oldsmar Little League game back in 1994. I’ll never forget how intimidating he looked in his black umpire uniform. Or how his hand enveloped and crushed mine as he suggested that I “better treat Denise well and take care of her.”

We miss you Gene.

From the Wilson family (https://everloved.com/life-of/david-gene-wilson/obituary/):

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David “Gene” Wilson on July 4th, 2025—born on January 15, 1951, to Oscar and Loretta Wilson of Dunedin, FL. A lifelong resident of Wood St. Survived by his sons, David R. Wilson of Clarksville, TN,  Josh Wilson of New Port Richey, FL, Jared Wilson of Clearwater, FL, and brother Robert Ivan Wilson of Texas. Gene cherished his grandchildren, Bria, Becca, Jackson, and Ali. Gene was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor. “Pops” hobbies and interests helped define who he was; he enjoyed fishing and baseball, often spending his weekends on a lake fishing. His love for baseball was something he shared with his children and grandchildren. Gene devoted 30 years of service to the Dunedin Little League as an umpire, coach, and volunteer. He was hard working and dedicated to the City of Dunedin as a plumbing/ gas/ mechanical inspector for over 20 years. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Dunedin Little League in his name.
