HVAC Professionals Gather for In-Depth Code Update Training Ahead of Major Industry Changes

Industry advocate Bob Cochell packed the house for his discussion on codes

On Thursday, May 7, HVAC contractors and industry professionals came together in conjunction with the Manasota Air Conditioning Contractors Association (MACCA) for an extended evening training session focused on upcoming code changes set to significantly impact the trade. With Florida Building Code revisions, NFPA standards, and mechanical and energy code updates all evolving at once, the event provided timely, practical insight into what lies ahead.

The session was structured into three focused segments: What Code & Why (FBC, NFPA, I-Code)Energy Code Updates, and Mechanical. Each portion broke down complex regulatory updates into clear, field-relevant guidance, helping attendees understand how these changes will directly affect installation practices, inspections, compliance requirements, and day-to-day operations.

A key highlight of the evening was the presentation by industry expert Bob Cochell, who delivered one of his final sessions before retirement. His decades of experience and practical, real-world perspective offered attendees valuable clarity on the intent behind the code changes and how to confidently navigate them moving forward.

Special thanks go to event sponsor Trane Supply for their support in making this training possible. Their continued investment in industry education helps ensure HVAC professionals remain informed, prepared, and equipped to meet evolving standards.

With strong attendance and engaged discussion throughout the evening, the event reinforced a clear message: staying ahead in HVAC requires ongoing education, collaboration, and a commitment to understanding change before it arrives on the jobsite.
