What do local inspectors really want contractors to know? The Manasota Air Conditioning Contractors Association (MACCA) recently brought that conversation directly to the table during its Inspector Panel Dinner Meeting, giving HVAC contractors an opportunity to hear from local building officials, ask questions, and gain practical insight into the permitting and inspection process.
The event brought together representatives from Sarasota County, Manatee County, and the Town of Longboat Key for an evening focused on the issues contractors encounter every day, from permitting requirements and inspection expectations to common corrections, code interpretations, and evolving requirements.
Panelists included Hank Fulmer, Deputy Building Official, Sarasota County PDS; Tom Ryan, Inspections Manager, Sarasota County PDS; Douglas Bellissimo, Building Inspector, Manatee County; Keith Van Ostenbridge, Plans Examiner/Inspections Officer, Manatee County; James Yarnell, Case Manager (Zoning), Manatee County; and Michelle Williamson, MEP Inspector, Town of Longboat Key.
The interactive format gave attendees more than a presentation. Contractors had the opportunity to engage directly with local officials during a live Q&A, bringing real-world questions and gaining a better understanding of what inspectors are looking for in the field.

For HVAC contractors, these conversations can provide valuable perspective on how to navigate local requirements, avoid common issues, reduce unnecessary delays, and keep projects moving. Bringing contractors and inspectors together also creates an important line of communication between the industry and the officials who oversee the permitting and inspection process.
MACCA extends a sincere thank you to Hank Fulmer, Tom Ryan, Douglas Bellissimo, Keith Van Ostenbridge, James Yarnell, and Michelle Williamson for participating and sharing their time and expertise with local contractors. MACCA also thanks Thread Source, Inc. for sponsoring the event and supporting educational opportunities for the HVAC industry.
