After 22 years developing, manufacturing, and marketing IAQ products at FreshAire UV, I ventured into other business opportunities but missed the HVAC industry and its community.
In late 2023, while searching for a reliable solution to maintain my air conditioning system’s condensate drain line, I discovered DRAIN IV. It was developed by contractor Kerry Taylor in Parrish, FL, where he and his neighbors were battling the same persistent slime problem.
I was reminded that in 2019, FreshAire UV had begun developing a product to combat slime in condensate pipes. While our UVC lights effectively controlled biological growth in the coil and drain pan, they couldn’t stop clogs caused by an elusive “white slime.”
The COVID-19 pandemic shifted our priorities to meeting UVC product demand, leaving the slime issue unresolved. Like many others, my partner Chris and I resorted to pouring vinegar into drain lines. When we forgot, it led to system shutdowns and inconvenient, late-night cleanups—a frustrating cycle.
After years of research, development, and field testing in his neighbors’ air conditioners, Kerry created an automatic, vinegar-based system that dispenses solution into the drain line every two days, lasting six months between services. It worked flawlessly.
In March 2024, I reached out to Kerry to help introduce DRAIN IV to the HVAC industry. Recognizing its potential to reduce service calls and generate additional revenue, we formed a partnership in April. By June, we launched a trade-specific version of the product, ceased online sales, and distributed samples to contractors and distributors—the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Today, DRAIN IV is distributed nationwide, backed by experienced manufacturer’s representatives dedicated to contractor training and engagement.
