NCI’s 3-Day System Performance & Air Balancing Certification Course Concludes in Tampa

National Comfort Institute Trainer John Puryear’s training style kept the sessions engaging and flowing

National Comfort Institute, Inc. (NCI) wrapped up its intensive 3-day System Performance & Air Balancing Certification Course in Tampa, FL, delivering hands-on training and practical insights to HVAC professionals from across the region. Hosted by Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc. at their Tampa facility (8921 E Sligh Ave.), the event ran October 21–23, 2025, and provided a full schedule of instruction from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Daikin also provided complimentary lunch throughout the training.

Designed for technicians, installers, sales professionals, and company owners, the course focused on giving contractors the skills needed to evaluate and optimize whole-system performance.

Participants learned how to test, diagnose, and improve residential and light commercial HVAC systems. Using real equipment and live demonstrations, NCI instructor John Puryear covered:

  • Techniques for becoming a go-to expert in high-efficiency and inverter-based systems
  • Step-by-step methods to find and fix installation issues that commonly impact comfort and efficiency
  • Procedures to test, adjust, and balance (TAB) systems to industry standards
  • How to verify performance using ASHRAE 221 and other recognized testing protocols
  • Strategies for reducing callbacks and improving long-term profitability
  • Best practices for documenting performance and communicating results to customers
Cesar Baeza & Torace Robinson of Modern Air Solutions, Chris Franke of Millian-Aire Enterprises Corp., Anna Charleston of Kalos Services, Jason Faucher of Florida Coast Cooling, Will Naughton of Rich’s AC & Instructor John Puryear of National Comfort Institute

Attendees completed hands-on labs focused on airflow measurement, static pressure diagnostics, balancing, and system performance verification, allowing them to apply concepts immediately in the field.

Upon completion, contractors received two NCI certifications, demonstrating mastery of both System Performance and Air Balancing. These credentials continue to gain traction nationwide as contractors shift toward performance-based testing and documentation. Participants also earned eligible CEUs, adding value for license renewal and ongoing professional development.

Daikin’s Tampa location served as an ideal host, providing a fully equipped training environment and supporting NCI’s mission of elevating HVAC system performance standards.
