Oldach Distributors joined Main Sponsor Ferran Services as a Platinum Sponsor supporting the 1st Copa Jibara Orlando golf outing benefiting Proyecto SOMOS Sin Paredes (We Are Without Walls Project) at the Orange Lake Golf Club in Orlando on November 3, 4 and 5, 2023. Carrier and Holiday Inn Club Vacations were also Platinum Sponsors.
The event was hosted by the Orlando Lions golf team, a long-time supporter of the Project and participant in Copa Jibara events.
As a 501c Non-Profit, Proyecto SOMOS Sin Paredes offers recreational, educational, social integration and assistance services free of charge to people with physical disabilities in Puerto Rico. Annually they celebrate a summer retreat designed for adults, and a summer camp designed for children between the ages of 6
-17. Each participant has a volunteer who becomes their arms and legs to assist with all their needs for the duration of the camp. All the staff are volunteers, and every donation received is used to offer the Project’s services and fulfill their mission.
In 2016, the Copa Jibara Golf Tournament was established to raise funds for the SOMOS Sin Paredes Project and for the past few years the tournaments have been held in Puerto Rico.
5 years ago, Ferran Services HVAC Sales Manager Hector Dominicci was approached by Douglas Candelario, SOMOS Sin Paredes Charity Representative, to bring a team from Orlando, FL to participate in the fundraising tournament in Puerto Rico. Hector was excited to contribute to raising money for such a cause.
The fund-raising successes in Puerto Rico inspired the Orlando Lions golf team to bring the tournament here. Last year, in search of new ideas, they discussed the possibilities of bringing the 7th Copa Jibara to Orlando to raise funds for 2024. Hector quickly saw an opportunity to make an impact of growth for the foundation, accepted the challenge and solicited Oldach Distributors to join as a sponsor. Among other considerations, Oldach representatives manned a welcome tent on the course offering refreshments and snacks to golfers as they played and provided a 2-ton Ducane air conditioning system as a prize drawn from a pool of golfers whose drives landed within nine feet from the hole.
The Copa Jibara Orlando golf outing kicked off with a party and silent auction on Friday evening. One hundred and forty-four players from New York, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico joined the local Orlando Lions golf team in the tournament. The first of two golf competitions was held Saturday, along with Top Tracer, Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin contests. The outing concluded Sunday with the second golf competition followed by lunch, a raffle drawing, and an awards ceremony.
The Coquets of Miguel Cotto Team were declared Champions and the SC Silos Team placed second. Luis Morales was presented the Ducane system by Lynnette Avarez and Moses Martinez of Oldach. Oldach operates HVACR distribution branches in Orlando, Kissimmee and Tampa, FL.
The 1st Copa Jibara Orlando golf outing raised $50,000 for the Proyecto SOMOS Sin Paredes!
