Tropic Supply hosted RUUD RD16 and RD18 Universal Heat Pump Side Discharge Trainings throughout Florida in October 2025.
RUUD District Sales Manager Wade Hademan and Ruud District Technical Representative Joe Holsey were joined by Tropic Supply’s Technical Services Support representatives Tim Murphey and Steve Poreba in conducting the 4-hour sessions. Tropic Supply Sales Development Training Specialist Tod Sutherland was also in attendance.
Tod summarized the classes during an interview, stating “We’re educating them on the new R-454B refrigerant 16 and 18 SEER side discharge models that RUUD is manufacturing. They look a lot like mini split products that people are used to seeing, but they’re not. They’re an inverter drive model that pairs up with any of our air handlers and provides full variable speed and high efficiencies.”
The instructors utilized Tropic Supply’s fully equipped training cart to provide hands-on demonstrations, detailing system features and components, proper installation and setup, troubleshooting and diagnostics and maintenance best practices.
“We’re also covering proper handling of the new refrigerant, the specialized tools and the regulations covering the R-454B,” Todd concluded.
Completers of the training classes received 8 hours of NATE continuing education credits.
